Gifts in Action

In many of the world’s most remote communities, reaching a doctor can take hours or even days. For people living far from hospitals or clinics, an infection or a difficult birth can quickly become an emergency.

In the remote, mountainous Bamyan province in Afghanistan, MSF has opened eight health facilities to help provide essential and basic healthcare to a population of around 22,000 people. At each of the MSF-supported facilities, a male nurse and a female midwife offer general outpatient services, maternal and child health consultations and routine vaccinations. They also help women with uncomplicated pregnancies and labours to deliver their babies in a safe environment.

“Before this clinic was built, we used to give birth at home. We didn’t have access to midwives or even vaccines. We came [to MSF’s facility] because we heard that giving birth assisted by a midwife is good for the baby’s and the mother’s health. During previous births, I didn’t feel well after the deliveries. But now, I feel healthy.” — Moslima, MSF patient in Bamyan, Afghanistan.

When you give any gift from the MSF Warehouse, including the three featured below, you’re helping MSF provide humanitarian assistance to people who need it most -- including women who are pregnant or post-partum.

Vaccines are one of the most effective public health interventions available, but at least 1.5 million children still die each year from vaccine-preventable diseases, highlighting the critical need for effective vaccination campaigns. When a meningitis outbreak began to spread in northwestern Nigeria in early 2025, MSF supported a mass vaccination campaign in Kebbi state. In just one week, close to half a million people were vaccinated, two thirds of whom were under the age of 15. This campaign significantly contributing to reducing the number of cases.

“Conducting a mass vaccination is essential, as it provides immunity against the disease for up to five to eight years, hence significantly reducing the risk of infection – even in the event of another outbreak.”
— Sham’un Abubakar, MSF’s emergency coordinator in Kebbi.
